Default A7n266-VM with Geforce FX 5600?

Has anyone managed to make this combination work? I am at the end of my
tether with this. The motherboard seems to hate the nforce GART driver.
I have seen a few other web posts with people having the same issue
but no resolution. It worked fine with on-board video.

System is:

A7N266-VM
Athlon 1600XP
Latest bios
Latest nforce and detonator drivers.
Windows XP Home edition SP1 + updates

I have tried clearing out all the old drivers, slecting AGP as primary
in the bios, clean installs but no good. Same result every time, the
system freezes when the desktop appears. I have run memtest and its ok.
I have tried doing the uninstalls/installs in safe mode with the same
result.

I can make the card work in PCI mode by allowing windows to install
default driver. Any ideas?

I've got same problem with me FX 5200 and i've got the same
motherboard .I have changed drivers 55.0345.23, problem still
persisted but was better than before. Another thing ,since me WINDOWS
XP pro has recovered from serious problem ( that iswhat the message
said, problem is FX 5200 of course) no problem at all, but must be
something with drivers, maybe it's not the card drivers, maybe it's
motherboard drivers problem I don't know. I keep observation if I'll
find solution I'll let you know.

Must not like the NF2 onboard video driver. Try this. Press F8 when
windows is booting, and choose vga mode. Go into device manager and
uninstall the GFX display adapter. Reboot. When it detects the card and
tries to load the driver, click on don't install now. Let it boot up with
the windows default driver. Then install the detonator/forceware driver.
