Wide Screen Monitors?

Bob I use both widescreen and regular aspect ratio. When running 1680x1050 (wide screen) I really miss the extra vertical pixels of 1600x1200 (normal), whereas I find the extra 80 horizontal pixels of the widescreen monitor pretty much go unnoticed. In fact, they sometimes put things too far into my peripheral vision, so I feel I'm looking too far to the left or right. On the other hand, there are some work areas that lend themselves to widescreen monitors. Many cubicles and work desks have cabinets and what not that hang over, limiting your vertical space. Widescreens work better in those scenarios. Given no vertical space limitations, I will take normal aspect any day. Your mileage may vary. |

Well, I'm sure. It's complete nonsense. As you've pointed out spreadsheets are great and for Adobe applications with all their palettes, widescreen is the only way to go. Bob What's nonsense? That I have a different opinion than you do? No...you said you weren't sure. I am sure. I disagree completely with his assessment. In fact, I'll go so far as to say that movies are the worst possible reason for a widescreen monitor. That's what television are for. Bob Not in my house We record EVERYTHING on the computer -- almost entirely in HD and play it on the various TVs (also all HD) through our gigabit backbone. But do your really consider a 63" Plasma a wide-screen monitor Really to each his own. |

What average user uses Adope applications and uses a spreadsheet large
enough to span a widescreen? Tom Scales wrote: Not sure I agree completely. Well, I'm sure. It's complete nonsense. As you've pointed out spreadsheets are great and for Adobe applications with all their palettes, widescreen is the only way to go. Bob |

Exactly...you're using televisions to watch the movies, not a computer monitor regardless of where you're recording the shows. But do your really consider a 63" Plasma a wide-screen monitor Nope. See above. Really to each his own. Indeed. Bob |

And what's the difference these days? My 37" LCD is 1920x1080p. Dual DVI and VGA input. Sounds like a PC monitor. My 2405FPW has S-video and Component. Does that make it a TV Tom |
