Problem installing Epson C42UX
A friend had a fault on his printer and I paid a visit to him to sort it
out. Well after several attempts to solve the problem and failed I decided to uninstall and reinstall. This I did but the red light kept flashing and nothing would print. I then bought the printer to my home and installed it on my second PC. Again the flashing light and no printing possible. I am at my wits end to solve this- Anyone got a suggestion please Blair |

That didn't help but on probing further I now get a message" Parts inside the printer are at the end of their service life Contact your dealer for replacements" I don't know if I believe the statement as the printer is fairly new Blair |

I am at my wits end to solve this- Anyone got a suggestion please Blair Blair Go to this link and download the softwa http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml Install the software and run it. Select your printer and model number (It only says C41 / C42 / C43 / C44 / C45 / C46 there is no UX, choose it anyway). Now right click on the SSC service utility, it looks like a printer icon near the clock in the task bar. Then click on protection counters. Click on reset counter (Note: this is NOT an ink counter, it is a WASTE ink counter). It will ask if you replaced with new pads; say “YES”. Then wait for a success message. Turn off the printer power and then turn it on again. If necessary un-plug the power cord from the back of the printer, wait 20 seconds. Plug it back in. If you have difficulty with the reset, uninstall the Epson Status Monitor and try again. Reinstall the status monitor once the problem has been fixed. Now, what this will have done is reset the Waste Ink Pad counter so the printer thinks the pads are new. This should be fine until the next time you get this message "Parts inside the printer are at the end of their service life. Contact your dealer for replacements". Next time this happens the pads must be replaced or cleaned to avoid ink spillage in the printer. If this does not work then e-mail me at the address in the header of this post. Tony |

Blair Blair E-mail me at the address in the header, the instructions are in a binary format which I cannot post here. They will explain how to remove the pad, you can clean it in cold water (Heaps of it) in a stainless sink (wear gloves!). Remove the pad close to the sink as it may drip. Gently squeezing the pad in the water and replacing the water as necessary (and it will be necessary!!!). Dry the pad in an airing cupboard after gently wringing it out, you might want to keep it flat somehow. Then re-install. You can alternatively make a pad from carpet underlay. The instructions refer to "Top Margin Adjustment", this is only necessary if you replace the ASF with a new one. Tony |

Can you describe which red light is flashing, and exactly how it flashes?
(how often, evenly or in a pattern, etc). Art It may be a waste ink pad maintenance flash or a carriage position fault flash or something else. This is indicating the waste ink pad protection numbers have been
reached. They need to be reset and the waste ink pads may require replacement. If it is the first time, the printer can usually survive one reset before the ink will leak from the printer bottom. Reset for many models is possible with a software program found at: http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml Art Blair wrote: "milou" wrote in message ... You will need a service manual (try some web searches with Google, or
see ebay for vendors selling these manuals). pen the case, remove the printer mechanism, etc, sine they are usually under the whole printer. If you do this, it is usually a good idea to add an extension to the waste ink hose to bring it out the printer's body and into a bottle. Once done this allows you to never have to replace the waste ink pads again.
