Pentium 965EE multiplier x16

Hello,

I bought a pentium 965EE 3733Ghz/1066FSB CPU for an ASUS P5N32 SLI
deluxe mainboard with 0310 bios. In the bios is the option to set the
multiplier from x12 min. to x60 max. also in everest and sandra shows
the same option. I was aghast to see, that the multiplier can be
changed, but doesn't make effect when I save the change in bios. When
the multiplier is set to x16, the CPU should run with 4300Mhz, but it
still shows 3733Mhz.


Does some body know this CPU and the possibility to change the
multiplier? Intel doesn't respond, ASUS doesn't know, some people say
this, some people say that... Is there some body who really knows about

this stuff?

I also have some 'overclocking' software on my Gigabyte board "EasyTune 4".
It has a setting for changing the multiplier' However, the reason is that
software is written for both Intel and AMD; the multiplier change has no
effect for Intel CPUs as it's locked. If you want to overclock the Intel,
you have to change the fsb speed in the BIOS. But I use the same software
for monitoring the CPU temperature. Notice than fsb can be changed both up
and down, underclocking was useful during the summer heat wave.

Gues you are not right...? Because this typ of CPU D965EE was designed
for overclocking by multiplier. On this CPU, the multiplier is not
locked...? (Info from Intel)

Temperature doesn't matter, I have an EXOS Koolance CPU watercooler.

Guess I didn't know that. Guess you always learn something. Guess there
could be a BIOS upgrade in that case.

Yuk: Condensation, moisture deposit, mold, leak... Mind you, dry cooling
also have problems: dust, bugs, spiders...
