PCLINCS.CO.UK - BEWARE !
1) Don't cross-post but I now have to since you are defaming a good vendor
withohut due cause. 2) PCLincs are not "no-namers without a reputation to protect" but a well-respected vendor with open forums where you could have taken this complaint. The fact that you chose to spread this all over Usenet is illuminating. 3) You are seriously suggesting that PLincs sold you a processor with no physical defects (surely you checked it was OK when you were applying paste?) you mounted a heatsink, removed the chip, removed the paste, sent it back to PCLincs who then deliberately broke the chip? They say it was damaged. That means it cannot be returned to AMD for refund so you think they should eat the cost of the chip? Your actions are that of a child who hasn't got his way. PCLincs have an excellent reputation for specialist products such as water-cooling and their prices are as good as anyone else in that market in the UK. You bought an OEM chip, you tried to use it and it is now damaged. Why is that anyone else's fault? DISCLAIMER: Although I have bought from PCLincs I do not work for them or have any material interest it the outcome of this. I do not like unsubstantiated attacks on vendors on Usenet or anywhere else. "Minatour" wrote in message ... Ordered an Athon XP1800 with the DLT3C core from pclincs.co.uk - to replace my old 1700 Palamino core. It came the next day and I fitted it without issue - but at power up, it refused to boot. So I jumpered a CMOS reset, tried another PSU, powering the board out of the case, etc - to no avail. The thing was DOA, so I put my Palamino back in - which runs fine. So the chip was RMA'd with a refund request. I got a phone call from pclincs today and was told - "The chip you returned is damaged - there are striations on the die consistent with the application of excessive heatsink pressure". Strange, because the clip on my heatsink is nice and easy to get on. She went on to say -"We're sending the chip back to you". I'm now 50 pounds the wiser/worse off. These guys are no-namers without a reputation to protect - suppose I ought to have been more cautious - but hind-sight's always 20/20. Pretty annoying, all the same. The moral of the story ? ....... as if it weren't obvious. For peace of mind .... buy from a reputable retailer. Minatour |
