Default Problem with PATA and SATA RAID on GA-8I945P Pro

Big problem that I haven't been able to resolve:

I can't seem to run both an SATA RAID (1 non-raid boot drive, 3 drives
in RAID 5) array and a PATA RAID (2 drives in RAID 1) array at the same
time.

The problem is that the ITE PATA Gigaraid controller doesn't post a
boot screen if the Intel ICH7R is set to RAID functionality. The ITE
controller shows up under device mangager after bootup, but it doesn't
see any of the PATA drives.

The ITE controller works fine if the Intel controller is set to
'disabled' and posts a boot screen.

This is very frustrating. Any thoughts?
