Default Changing my evga 6800 ultra

Hi as some of you might have noticed I have to change my last video card, an
eVga GeForce 6800 Ultra.
I wanted to know what I could get not to go below the 6800 ultra standards
and remaining on AGP.

I know this is the NG for nvidia, but I think the Sapphire X 1950 Pro 512 MB
is the only one that can keep up with the 6800 U without costing over 250 ?.

Or can i get something still equal or better than the 6800 Ultra spending
less?

Thanks

There is the 7800GS. It is typically 25-30% slower than the X1950 Pro and
can be found for $25-30 cheaper in the USA.

The 7600GT AGP is cheaper again but performs effectively as well as the
7800GS.

Not to mention that X1950pro could cost you more than you think if your PSU
doesnt have at least 30A on the 12V rail. Those cards are power hungry...!

Do you know what the X1950 Pro draws in 3D mode? Not the system, the card.
Just the card.

72W. That's 6A at 12v.

That's a bit under an EX6800 at full tilt and way less than an FX-62.

Have a hunt around the Xbitlabs site. When they measure power consumption
of video cards they don't measure the power flow at the wall and make
guesstimates based on who knows what assumptions about PSU efficiency and
whatnot. They put shunts in the power feeds to the PCIe bus and if
necessary to the supplementary power connector on the card itself. That way
they can measure exactly the power the card itself is drawing. And the
X1950 Pro only draws 6A. It's 50% more than a 7900GT, true - that only
draws about 4A. But it's not a PSU killer. Most often the problem is that
so many PSUs are cheap **** that can't come close to meeting their own
specs. Get a decent 500W PSU with about 40A on the 12v rails and you can
run SLI 8800GTS with room to spare. It's been done.
