Will DirectX 10 become available for Windows XP ? If not, why ?

DirectX10 has been written to be an integral part of Vista, not a bolt on
for other OS. In the past the purpose of directx was as a quicker router to
hardware than the desktop. Vista is designed to be more efficient at the low
level, so instead of bypassing the low level, direct10 works through it.

I was wondering if it's not just a marketing strategy of MS to force
everyone to buy Vista.
After all, Windows XP is a perfect platform for games (and DirectX 9 was
available for Windows 98, 2000 & XP).

I wouldn't think so.

Windows XP is several years old. It is time for for the older operating
systems to eventually fade away. MS Vista was designed for DX 10 from the
beginning for maximum gaming effficiency. DX 10 games will be coming soon
but how soon is unknown at present.

I was wondering if it's not just a marketing strategy of MS to force
everyone to buy Vista.
After all, Windows XP is a perfect platform for games (and DirectX 9 was
available for Windows 98, 2000 & XP).

And everyone said that win98se was better than XP for games when XP first
came out. DX9 games may well run faster on XP than Vista, just as DX8
games ran faster under 98se than XP.

Currently schedule for late release in 2007 and there are about 3 video
cards on the market that will be compatible.

You make this stuff up? Scheduled for release in 2007?? Where do you get

DirectX 10 eliminates all the legacy support for previous DirectX versions.
This is a great thing since they can concentrate on new and future
technologies. DirectX 9.0m will allow for backwards compatability.

That being said, there is really no reason DirectX 10 can't work on XP since
the foundation between the two OS's is nearly identical. Vista is nothing
more than a glorified XP with a fancy front end. Sure there may be some
enhancements, but probably nothing that couldn't be done in XP and as
efficiently.

Actually, many people think it is just a marketing strategy. Microsoft is
struggling to give people reasons to switch to Vista.

Microsoft may say DX10 is firmly rooted in Vista's driver model. However,
that's like saying Windows cannot function without Internet Explorer or
Windows Media Player.
