Default Great Laptop Bags

I recently received 2 laptop backpack intended for different purposes
and they are great -- I lucked out, but the reviews on Amazon usually
lead me to the right products.

A great light laptop backpack is:

Targus CVR600 15.4 Groove Notebook Backpack
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...lance&n=172282

It is light, made with excellent materials (looks much better than on
the web picture -- I would think that any competant marketing manager
would be conscious of that and provide Amazon with a better picture --
jumping off soap box).

The front pocket of it is great for things such as a large digital
camera. It fits my Kodak 12x zoom perfectly. There are also ample
pockets and space for a beverage holder.

A great large-capacity laptop backpack is:

Targus TXL617 17 XL Notebook Backpack
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...lance&n=172282

It is also constructed very well, and it is LARGE. I will use this
when I have to go visit my mother and will need to carry a power
supply and other items.

The two bags complement each other well -- if you need a light but
functional bag the first one fits the bill, but if you need to carry
more, like on a business trip or as a carry-on or if you're a student
with a lot of books, the second one is great.

Personally I prefer just picking up a nice sleeve for my laptops. I
forgot which brand I use, but the benefit is that it can be used with
virtually any laptop bag/backpack (or even carried on its own.

"Sleeve," you say?

Have a look at http://www.sfbags.com/index.htm.

Nice -- thanks for the link. I have a really nice Targus sleeve for
my E1505 and a Sumdex sleeve for my 630m. I either got them from
eBags.com or Amazon.

I find that I use my light backpack more. I'm not in a business
setting and often I want to take a notebook and one or two books with
me. I'm actually in the process of writing two books, so I do a lot
of research and I belong to a clubhouse where I can hang out, talk to
people, drink coffee, and play cards.

(actually I watch the people play cards, here they play a complicated
game called "Sheepshead" that I don't care to learn)

So, I have the big backpack, the mid-size backpack, and the sleeves. I
personally haven't used the sleeves much, but if I were in a corporate
environment they would be perfect for carrying the laptop to meetings,
etc.

Thanks for this. I've been looking for something for my E1505 and my
Kodak DX6490. This looks perfect.

Does the E1505 fit in the smaller backpack? Some of the reviews on
Amazon say yea, some say not in the pocket designed for the laptop.
Thanks.

Hi Dave,

Yes, the E1505 fits great in the smaller backpack. The quality of the
backpack is top-notch, and it looks much better than on the web site.
It is a nice small size, and the weight is balanced very nicely, so
much so that I can honestly say that it doesn't make a difference to
carry the 15.4" vs. the 14" if I am not carrying several other heavy
items. The front pouch easily holds my Kodak 12x zoom 850 camera, and
the left and right side pockets are large, and there are two web
pockets on the outside of those. The laptop is nicely separated from
other items in the main compartment. The zippers are very smooth --
there won't be any snagging on this one. I have bought bags in the
past that cost several times as much that are not as nice.

(now if I could only convince them to give me a commission!).

I bought another one to give as a gift.

P.S. -- the larger one is definitely overkill for most purposes.

The brand I use is Shoreline; I have both a 14" one and a 12" (both for
standard screen notebooks, they probably offer a widescreen version
now). The fit is snug, and in both cases I can leave a PCMCIA card in
without an issue. The 14" case has been used with my old IBM T21 & now
my D610; the 12" is for my Latitude LS. I paid between $20-25 for each.

I've used Shoreline before too. The Targus is of similar quality. I
wish I would have remembered the company that made the "sleeve" for my
600m. It was very lightweight, yet had a frame around which it was
wrapped, and it was wrapped tightly, so that the laptop was very well
protected because it sat just within this tight frame.
