Default great scanner for b&w paper negatives

Hi,

can anybody give me some suggestions/reviews on a good scanner. The
scanner would be used mainly for scanning b&w photo paper negatives. I
am a student with interest in pinhole photography and I'm having the
problem that great looking negatives when scanned just don't turn out
right, too dark (loss of image). Any help would be great, especially
if somebody uses a specific scanner for similar purposes.

It may not be the scanner, it may be your technique.

You are saying B&W but you need Gray Scale. B&W is 1 bit, Black or White,
Gray Scale is 256 bits with 256 levels or shades of gray.

Sounds to me that you need to learn more about the in and outs of scanning.
Things like how to adjust the scan for the best result.
