I am about to return the bargain basement 5500 card I got and going
all out for a 5900. I was wondering what brand and model offers the
best value and performance for the money. I will be using it in an
AMD Athlon 3200+ system with 1Gig of RAM and on a chaintech nforce 2
chipset if that helps.

A number of the UK magazines rate the Gainward 1100/5900XT Golden
Sample highly. It's a 5900XT but slightly overclocked out of the box,
and performance is apparently not a millions miles away from a 5950 in
most applications. It's also very good value (in the UK anyway).

However, I have heard some people suggest Gainward have been known to
use cheaper components - I don't know how true this is. Leadtek and
BFG seem well respected all round.

Lachoneus:

I'm not too happy with my eVGA 5900XT--the display flickers when in
3D mode. This was a known issue with some 5900 boards a year or two
ago, and it was supposedly fixed in the 45.33 driver--but not for the
5900XT.

I have the same card and haven't experienced this problem. Do you see it
in all games or specific games?

I have a LeadTek fx 5900 xt and am very happy with it - has overclocked
nicely too.
