audio picked up by laptop mic - not from headset mic

My Skype is versiom 5.5.0.124, and it runs on a Dell XPS M1300 laptop
with Vista SP2 as the OS. The audio codecs are by Sigmatel. I have just
listened to a callback using the headset mic, and the laptop's built-in mic(s)
sound better as long as I'm facing the laptop. It's probably because the
mic in my cheapo headset is not as good as those in the laptop.

My headset mic isn't picked up it states in the win 8 sound menus with disconnected and disabled show it is not plugged in when it clearly is this is the right port and everything it worked at one point the stopped and I can't rember what might of caused it please help I've been googleing around off and on for months my laptop is a Toshiba satilite pro the driver is IDT
