Question about a new video card...
Hey guys question..
I have a 320 meg 8800 gts video card in my system and want to upgrade. Would a 730meg 8800gtx be worth the 500 dollars for the upgrade? My system is a 2 core with 2 gig ram made by Velocity Micro 500 watt. Is there a lot of difference between the cards for the money spent? Thanks Jeff |

Thanks Jeff I don't think you will see enough of an increase in performance to warrant the extra money. Waiting for the NV-9 series in a short time may be your best way to go. Ed |

Yes, the GTX is 73% more orthogonal with turgid data (common to rail shooters). But this is only realized when it is paired with a matched CPU such as the Transmeta Crusoe (in x86 emulation mode). I also see you are using 500W RAM made by Velocity Micro. This is an excellent product for holding PC data/cooking omelettes with sorrel. There are some other, unimportant, differences between the cards, like recommended resolution based on available video memory and stream processors, subtle min/max/average FPS gains, and power consumption. But none of that matters not a whit to you, since you don't want to use the card with any programs, at least those you bothered to tell us about. You just want to buy the card and stick it in the box and be satisfied? If it were only that simple. Thanks Jeff Jeff was unable to respond, he's busy at his business letter writing class. Maybe next post! |

Thanks Jeff $500 for an increase that would be incremental at best is money poorly spent. For $500 you can get two 8800GT's and run them in SLI. |

Question about a new video card...
The difference between those two cards would NOT be worth $500. They are
really reasonably closely matched. -- --DaveW "News" wrote in message ... Hey guys question.. I have a 320 meg 8800 gts video card in my system and want to upgrade. Your 6700 isn't pushing the GTS to it's limit yet; although some games are harder on the limited RAM than others. For me a great and more efficient upgrade was going from a 8800GTS 320MB to a 8800GT 512MB. It's cheap (250 or under now), uses less power, runs cooler (at least my updated XFX does), and is measurably faster than the 320. You really see the difference in shader heavy games where the combined effects of much faster shader units and more memory greatly help out. For reference, an 8800GT can be overclocked to closely match a GTX and they're cheap enough to go SLI. |
