New Post1
What is the difference between these two posts?
This one is per your suggestion Jez - I don't see any difference - except in this body text and of course the minor subject change. (But nothing look different in the general layout) When I've posted this I'll be able to see if the Internet treats the other one differently when I receive it. This is posted as you have suggested. "And what happens to your own personal internet? I just the other day got an
internet that was sent by my staff at 10 o'clock in the morning on Friday. I got it yesterday. " -- "War is the continuation of politics by other means. It can therefore be said that politics is war without bloodshed while war is politics with bloodshed." "Robert McCurdy" wrote in message ... What is the difference between these two posts? Regards Robert McCurdy Let's compare them. This is your current message, a "New Post1" one. This really is a new posting. http://groups.google.ca/group/alt.co...a?dmode=source There is no "references" section in the header of that message. Which means the message is not part of any other thread. If someone replies to your message, the message ID of " will be copied into the references. That is how a news reader can figure out that a reply is part of a thread. Now, look at the other posting you made. "New Post2". This one appears to be done by using a "Reply" button. http://groups.google.ca/group/alt.co...9?dmode=source Notice how, in your "New Post2", there is a "References:" and then a long list of message IDs. That means your "New Post2" is tacked onto a thread consisting of the items in the "References:" list. That is how I can tell your "New Post2" is a "Reply", rather than a "New" message. Paul |

Is there a central tack repository, or do they use multiple distributed tacks? |

But I guess tacks makes sense - after all, they're one of the only two sure things. Actually, the other of the two is not absolutely sure. Sure for the body, yes, but we do not understand enough about the rest to be certain of it. Of course, there is another set of certainties, identified by Einstein, of which only one is absolutely certain or sure. The extent of the universe, and of human stupidity.
