Default Problem with Video display?

Hello,

The old Win-98 PC that I rebuilt goews into the safe mode at start up. It
changes the display to 640x480 and 16 colors.

Can somebody tell me why this would happen and what I should do about it?

Many thanks in advance.
Bernard

Safe Mode is a diagnostic mode that loads windows without the normal video
driver. It uses a generic VGA driver and always uses 640x480x16. You need to
know why the box is booting into Safe Mode. Usually because of a device
failure which could include the drivers. While in Safe Mode go to the Device
Manager and check to see if there is anything obvious. If not, you need to
pinpoint the problem device and/or it's driver through process of
elimination.
