Is there a forum for using the AIW in a HTPC?

I have a HTPC system with an AIW 8500DV, and want to schedule
recordings from DirecTV... and this is not a supported feature of
the MMC 8.5 software(bummer). The DirecTV box connects via the
serial port - and works quite well, but I need something to setup
the scheduling now. and I'm stuck... Any advice or pointing me in
the right direction would be appreciated.

Since the AIW cannot tune in Satellite channels directly, you will
need to have your DirectTV box tuned to the correct channel at the
time you wish to record.

Then, just set the AIW to record whatever channel you set it to to
watch Satellite (probably you set the AIW to either channel 3 or 4, or
you set it to Input 1 or something like that).

You'll need to essentially set 2 recording timers, one on the MMC
software, and one on the DirecTV box (if it supports that). If you
can't do that, you'll just have to remember to tune the DirectTV box
to the correct channel before the show starts

It is possible to have the PC control the DirecTV box by any of several
methods. Personally I have a DirecTivo which doesn't accept any of the
methods that work with a standard DirecTV box so can't comment on what
works and what doesn't. I believe that this is what the OP wants to do.

Interesting. I see now that the OP is probably asking about that.

However, MMC does not have any way to send those control messages,
correct?

So it is possible you wouldn't need to set something on the DirecTV box,
but you would need to set a record timer on whatever software is used to
control the box.

This is one program that I know of, may be others.

http://www.pcmx.net/dtvcon/

This program works well, and basically what I'm having to do IS setup 2
seperate schedules for anything to record... I wanted something easier and
more cosmetically pleasing. Snapstream PVS is a awesome piece of software
(even at $70), and it will do what I what- Including controlling the directv
box via the serial cable. BUT it does support ATI's aiw card well... The
capture quality is just plain terrible.

I was hoping to hear someone maybe had a solution for this problem already.
I find it hard to believe I'm the only one on the internet with this setup
and issue. But - - - -Maybe. ??????????????????

Just in case anyone else is researching this, I know of a program called
girder (girder.nl) which is a scripting/macro program, but I can't figure it
out... That would also do what I want, but its not going to be any easier or
more eye pleasing than the way I have it set now.

I have read some stuff about xmltv files, but apparently there is not "per
se" a front end that will incorporate both features (for MMC and dtvcon) so
its kinda mute too... all that does is add 1 MORE step, which is not the
idea.

ATI needs to add support for plugins, and customizing how MMC schedules...
If ONLY IT SUPPORTED THE CABLE LINK! Oh well.

THANKS TO EVERYONE.

(btw: is there like a AIW forum anywhere???)
