Come back to catalyst 3.2
but many games have problem under the driver 3.2 such as Gun Metal and
Unreal 2 "Free" ¦b¶l¥ó ¤¤¼¶¼g... Athlon XP 1800+ ATI 8500 DV 2 IBM 40 GB disks in Raid 0 Since I installed catalyst 3.4 drivers and now catalyst 3.5 the TV application (MMC 8.5) uses up to 50-70 % of CPU. Of course any recording genarates a lot a frame drop. Other applications like DVD (7.6) or Player are quite good 10 to 15 % CPU. With catalyst 3.2 and any previous versions it was only 3 to 10 % CPU for TV, and no frame drop with the best resolution and quality. I revert to 3.2 drivers, keeping MMC 8.5, and CPU drops to less 10 %. So MMC 8.5 does not seam to be the problem. As some incompatibilities remain, (some windows refresh are not well done) I will have also to revert to MMC 7.7. I am very frustated to not be able to use new catalyst versions and Easylook. I dont see any solution to this problem in the news (including rage3D). Any advice ? Thanks Olivier |

What OS? Which version of Direct X? Are you doing a clean install? What
setting are you using for recording? How much memory do you have? Using XP Sp1 and DX9a I get very good recordings using the "DVD quality" preset and no dropped frames with a slow TBird 1333 and 512mb ram. "Free" wrote in message ... I was having problems with that, using Cat 3.5 (which is the only Cat 3.x that has really worked well for me) - couldn't get the TV app to work. Then I noticed a post on Rage3D from an ATi person saying that the basic difference between 8.1 and 8.5 is EazyLook. So I reverted to 8.1 and all is well (I don't have/want the remote). Does EazyLook work with the Cat 3.2 drivers? It occurs to me it may not, and that's why you get less processor usage. Just a thought. patrickp |

Os : Windows 2000 pack 3, Direct X 9.0A
Athlon XP 1800+ memory 512 MB ATI 8500 DV System disk : Quantum SCSI Video/recording disk : 2 IBM 40 GB disks in Raid 0 Without recording , cpu usage (typical) is as follow : Atimmc.exe: 46 % Explorer.exe : 6 % System : 6 % recording TV channel with DVD preset MPEG2 720x576 PAL 8MB/sec Atimmc.exe: 92 % Explorer.exe 5% System 3 % lost frames 4 to 10 % The problem is TV cpu overhead ! The problem does not seam related to MMC 8.5 and easylook, because when =
I reverted to 3.2 drivers with the same version of MMC , CPU usage = returns to low value (less than 5%). Of course, easy look does not work in this configuration (an information = message is displayed for this when TV application is started) and I get = some side effects (I have to click on channel surf first to get channel = display), but CPU values are correct and recording fine. I never got CPU overhead problem with previous version of driver. olivier |

Have you tried MMC 8.1, and do you get the high CPU usage there? patrickp |
