Default Fixing HDD errors

Hi all. My Maxtor 120GB has showed up Index and Security Descriptor errors
under Norton Disk Doctor. I have run Check Disk with both options for fixing
file system errors and bad sectors. But the problems don't go away. How can
I fix the problems permanently?

TIA.

What OS ?

It sounds like an OS/file system problem, as you state it.

Look in Event Viewer.

Thanks Al. It is Win XP Pro SP 2. There are no more errors under Event
Viewer now but there were when my slave drive was in there (which I suspect
was causing the system to freeze intermittently - now removed).

How are OS.file system errors fixed? Scandisk has the option to fix file
system errors right? Or it is necessary to do a OS repair?

Btw here are the previous errors if relevant:

The errors don't seem to be fixed. Here is a log from Norton Disk Doctor -
how can I fix them? Thanks.
