How do I use/config the Realtek HD audio coax out? Two GigaByte board's coax won't work!

Hi,

I have two Gigabyte boards, the EP35-DS3R and an MA74GM-S2. I've had
both for several months, they work with no problems. I began
configuring these PCs so I can view the video through my TV and listen
to the audio through my surround sound 5.1 receiver.

I have a DVD player that I play 5.1 audio flawlessly through the
receiver using a coax cable.

Then with every thing off, I pull the coax connection off the DVD
player and plug it into the back of either PC's audio coax connection.

When I star everything up, all I get is a low volume hum. Both PCs
behave the same. Because both don't work with the same symptoms, I
doubt it's a malfunction.

I'm almost 100% sure I don't have settings correct.

Note when I plug in headphones and use the surround sound demos,
everything comes in OK and ther is NO hum.

Any suggestions what I'm missing?

I THINK YOU'LL HAVE TO MANUALLY RECONFIGURE THE AUDIO OUTPUT IN
CONTROL PANEL (OPEN THE 'SOUND' DEVICE).

GO TO THE 'PLAYBACK' TAB, AND THE THE DEFAULT SHOULD BE SET TO
'SPEAKER'. WHEN YOU ARE USING ALTERNATE/REALTEK SOUND, SELECT
'REALTEK DIGITAL OUTPUT' AND PRESS 'SET DEFAULT', AND HOPEFULLY,
YOU'LL BE GOOD TO GO. NOTE YOU'LL NO LONGER GET SOUND OUT OF YOUR
COMPUTER SPEAKERS EVEN IF YOU UNPLUG...YOU'LL HAVE TO GO BACK AND
SELECT 'SPEAKERS' AND SET IT TO DEFAULT TO GO BACK TO NORMAL SOUND.

Thank you, this works, 5.1 stereo!! The bad hum is still there, but I
believe it may be caused by the 20 feet of dubious quality cable.
