Scanning Old Negative and Splicing
I would like to get a Canon LiDE 500F to scan some old
negatives. Unfortunately, almost none of them are 35mm. Most are bigger. Is it possible/practical to scan sections of them and then splice them together? |

You might try the trick of puting your film on the scanner glass and putting a clean white sheet of paper over the film and scanning using the standard platen mode. It does not give the best result, but it is better that nothing. Here some web sites showing how to scan a transparency when the scanner does not have an adapter. http://www.afn.org/~afn11300/slides.html http://www.tom-elliott-photography.com/hp-scanner.html http://www.abstractconcreteworks.com...cklighter.html http://www.abstractconcreteworks.com...uoroflash.html -- CSM1 http://www.carlmcmillan.com -- |

I have an old, old, scanner, so I'll give it a try on that one. What it is doing, I think is "collecting" light so as to simulate a light source above the film. So, I believe the optimum arrangement would be to put a sheet of paper over the film folded at a right angle with the hypotenuse (wow, haven't used that word in decades) 3 times the width of the film /\ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / _____ \ A B C Kind of like the above except with a 90 degree angle instead of 45 or whatever. A, B, and C are equal distances Just a guess. Thanks for the tip. |

Do you have to take them out of the cardboard carrier? |

Also could not find an email address for 'Betty'. Got no response from one of the others. Oh well....I tried. Jethro |

Or maybe a Slide adapter for a camera. http://www.adorama.com/Search-Result...copy%20adapter For $99-$150 you can buy a new scanner with a Slide adapter built-in. http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/co...categoryid=120 -- CSM1 http://www.carlmcmillan.com -- |
