Default Winfast PVR - audio codec?

Hello,

I am quite sucessfully using a Winfast A-180TDH Cinema card and the
bundled Winfast PVR program to capture TV. After using the default
mpeg2 capture configuration, I set up a new config using DivX 505 for
video coding but am having a problem with the audio codec. The video
is captured fine and plays back fine with the DivX player.

I installed a Fraunoffer (sp?) mp3 audio codec and it shows in the
Win98SE multimedia/devices/audio list but it doesn't appear in the
drop-down list of audio codecs in the Winfast PVR "capture
configuration" setup. Neither do some of the other (apparently)
installed audio codecs.

Can anyone let me know why some of the audio codecs don't appear in
the Winfast PVR capture configuration setup?

Better still, can anyone advise which audio codec they have used with
Winfast PVR for good results and where to get it, etc.?

Thanks and regards,

Geoff.

The codec's you mention may only be direct show filters.
Download AVIcodec which will list actual Audio/Video [de]coders and Direct
Show filters.

Hi,

Thanks for the hint. I will try your suggestion but am currently in
Pakistan, where the connections are horribly slow.

Presuming what you say is correct, can you suggest a good direct show
audio filter (and where to get it)?

Thanks,

Geoff.

You have to use the audio codec from the sound card not an MP3 addon

What you doing in Pakistan? I'm just back from a 5 month stint in India

so I
know what you mean as outside major cities my connection was around 10k.

Thanks for the extra info.

I am in Pakistan in connection with some oil exploration in the
western part of the country - quite near the Afgan border, so there
are a few security issues!

You Ozzies have no fear. Just spent 9 months in your fine country and
travelled from West to East and South to North. Had a ball ;-)

I will be here for a few more days then back home (Australia) where I
will try out your suggestions.

Another question. Are you posting via Google Groups (which I am)? If
so, perhaps you can tell me how come I can post a new message to any
group but can only reply to messages in some groups? Any idea?

Nope, sorry I always use my regular German free News server but as a backup
I also have my regular ISP and an old but still functional Compuserve
account as backups (Nice of them isn't it).
