OT - iPhone
"Von Fourche" wrote in message k.net... I'm no fan of cell phones but this Apple iPhone looks interesting. This is one gadget that I just might have to get more sooner than later. From what I understand you can surf the net on this thing? Is that correct? Anybody think this could really be a gigantic must have item for the next five years? Anybody predicting this could revolutionize the phone/computer merger? Sounds like this thing could do it all like something off Star Trek. Opinions? Yes it appears able to surf the web plus a lot more and will merge a lot of hardware. It is what Gates and MS have been striving for in the home and of course when they do anything like that we get the monopoly crriers and the M$ people out. But: Min service $60 per month two year contract=$1,400 Cost of phone $500 Total $1900 before taxes etc etc I think I will give this a wide circle Let the gadget junkies pay for the revolution :-) Bill |

I disagree completely. The iPhone runs a full version of OSX. Not a stripped down Windows Mobile OS. Therefore, you're running a REAL browser. PocketPC phones (I have no experience with a Treo) have huge limitations on what they can do on a website. No Java. No Flash. No Adobe reader. Limitations of HTML and CSS. The iPhone will have no such limitations. You can load up any OSX app and run it. It's a defining difference for the iPhone. I'm not getting one, but they are cool. |

Subtract the monthly cost of your currently plan to make the numbers accurate. |

Thanks for clarifying, I stand corrected. Wow, a full version of OSX, that is impressive. I think I'll hold onto my stock :-) At the moment, a Treo with my Palm apps can do a lot more (of what I'd like it to do). But given what you just said, the iPhone has much more potential. |

Much more potential especially considering that Palm has been mismanaging its business. It has been unbelievable to watch. The second coming of Jobs on the other hand has been characterized by superb execution. I think the Treo's days are numbered, and Palm should have named the Foleo "faileo". |

I understand you are trying to show a differential in the monthly rate for a current user but it will still end up costing what I have shown above. Plus canceling a current plan may attract a cancellation fee. Anyway as I said its a wide circle for me as I dont have a cell phone |

Maybe it's just me, but I've never understood why anyone would want to watch or do things on a screen so small. Seems we're always looking for larger monitors, larger TVs, larger camera LCDs... It may be 'handy' once in a great while, but if that's the case, it's a high price to pay for convenience for that one time. I couldn't agree more with you Boris and wondered the same thing !! |

Surfing the web on your phone is pretty usual these days isn't it? At least it is in the UK. My past 2 phones have had full web browsing. Do you really surf the net on your phone that much? How does the battery hold up? |

I think having the technology is a good thing but for ME, the cost is not worth the convenience. Honestly I don't want to surf the net on such a small screen. Essentially I just want to use my cell phone as a phone because that's really what I need it for. Of course I see the technology good for some, just not me. |
