GA-7N400 Pro (2) not reading hard drives / solution found
Hello all:
First, let me thank all those who participated in this effort. After many weeks of "discoveries" regarding the issue of IDE 1 not reading hard drives, it has come to this: Seems there is an issue with some motherboards having a warped area. (A slight "convex" at IDE 1& 2) Thus a short develops at the back of the mb near the screw hole nearest IDE 1 & 2. Removing this screw allows the mb, at least, to see hdds in IDE 1. Although the drives still cannot be loaded with an OS, IDE 1 does read hdds. Second: Revision 1 mbs do not have this warped area. Neither do they have the CMOS jumper (which is located within the issue area) It may be that GB's introduction of the CMOS jumper somehow caused the warp to occur. (Possibly due to the thin layered blank ... don't know) Anyway ... Giga-Byte was kind enough to replace both my GA-7N400 Pro (2) boards with revision 1 boards. First boot ... perfect in both systems. Thanks again to all those who responded. Ranay |
