Default Toner refill failing

I have an Epson CX11NF colour laser. The black toner ran out so I bought a
refill and followed the instructions carefully to refill it. I made sure
that the toner chamber and the waste chamber were both empty before I
refilled the toner chamber. I have shaken the cartridge and made sure it is
inserted correctly. I have turned the machine on and off and reinserted the
cart several times. Every time the printer fails with the error "Install K
TnrCart".

The instructions from the toner supplier says that the cartridge chip will
not prevent it from working after it is refilled. Is this true?

If it is true what do I have to do to make the machine recognise the
cartridge?

David

As you are already I would be skeptical as to the refilled cartridge working
without having to reset the Epson toner chip. Doing a google search I found
sites that sell chip resetters for your laser printer and that gives me a
hint to what probably needs to be done.
Maybe someone else is lurking through this NG that can give you more
solid info, but if not I would start making some phone calls, even to Epson
support to find out if one needs to reset (or replace) the chip before a
refilled cartridge would work. Of course you could call the refill toner
folks and ask them why Epson would put a chip on their cartridge in the
first place, but I think we both know the answer to that already. And if
they do have a valid answer you could at least review the steps you followed
to filling the cartridge. Maybe something else is amiss rather than the chip
needing a reset.

As Jan says, it needs to replace the chip. Very older models (before 2 years
or more) don't need this replacement, but newer models need.

Some printers can be set to ignore toner warnings

You may find this hard to believe but some toner sellers on Ebay actually lie
and say no new chip is needed. Some just cut and paste the wrong info in their
Ebay adds. Contact the toner seller and ask WTF? Maybe they will send you or
sell you the chip.

I personally HATE the printer makers that use these ruses to keep you buying new
$100 carts when a refill is all that is needed.

My Konica has had all 4 carts refilled 5X no problem

www.tonerrefillkits.com is reliable. I have HP 8150, HP CP2025, Canon
MF4100. I get both compatible carts and refills. Refills that require
chips (CP2025) come with new chips.

Your point about vendors who either don't know if specific refills will work
or just lie is significant.

After four requests for some help from the refill vendor Hottoner (Sydney)
went unanswered I have given up on them and will get remade carts or refills
from somebody who knows what they are talking about and who has some concept
of service.
