Default visioneer one touch & Windows 2000

I have a visioneer one touch scanner & installed it with no trouble
when my PC had windows ME. Then my PC got infected with a virus, a
friend rebuilt it with windows 2000.

During installation, I had to choose from windows 95, 98 or NT, there
was no option to choose 2000. But then there was no ME option either,
& that one worked before.

Now, after I installed my scanner, I get a message "this program might
not run as expected on this version of windows" Then I choose
continue, & I get error messages, 1st one says "error code Ox2" the
2nd one says "error code 999 unknown error" and last I get "problem
comunicating with the twain device".

I went to the visioneer site, got a new driver, followed their
instructions on deleting first, then unplugging scanner, replugging,
using the driver I downloaded, but still get all the same error
messages.

I didn't pay much for my scanner, but hate to junk it since I don't
use it heavily & it seems to be in excellent condition still.

I'm going in circles here. Anyone know how to solve this?
