That's not really a problem as official updates are spaced throughout
the year anyhow. I read the article and it seems to be more of a
statement affirming to developers how solidly they believe in their
drivers than anything else. Really PR for devs and not much more.

We'll still get plenty of releases no matter what though, as just
because a driver may be only officially updated every so often, we still
get leaks from different manufacturers and OEM's. In fact, card
manufacturers often use their own version which may be newer or older
than the official reference.

Obviously with a strong emphasis on Anisotropy enhancements and an
evolving shader compiler, there are going to be many many more releases
before the next hardware cycle. CG will still be the chosen shader
compiler for OpenGL and HLSL for D3d, each compiler will be separately
optimized for a long time to come as NV can't just focus on DX9 without
abandoning the OpenGL developers and alternate OS community.
