Default CD-RW Trouble

I have a burner"combo cd-rom cdrw" that works fine for the CDROM part.Plays
music cd's,data opens fine ect.But when i try to burn a cd it won't burn
them.sometimes it will do a complete burn but the audio won't play.on a
different cdplayer or this one i have either..sometimes there are error
messages and the cdrom ejects the cd.i have tried slowing down the burn
speed,tried usind different software to burn also..Nero,easy cd creator,and
windows media player.nothing works.i mainly just want to burn music,not
data.it is a GCE 8502B Unit.can anyone help?.btw my operating system is XP
HOME..oh.and i tried uninstalling the burner in device
manager,rebooting,tried different drivers also.nothing works..please
help.tyty

You may want to cover more of your complete setup. How are your drives set
up, is the burner set as master or slave, etc.

How fast is your computer, how much memory, basically anything with the
system that might effect your burning. MP3 files, and are they converted or
what? Have you updated any firmware on your burner?

Check to see if there is a firmware update. Firmware updates for CDRW drives
are pretty common and very simple to run.

I updated the firmware and it's still not working.The pc has plenty of
ram..It is a configured as a master not a slave.there is onl;y1
cdrom/cdrw..it worked for 2 years so it's not something that happened on a
new install..i am about to give up.any other ideas out there?.thanks RH

Honestly, using a "cheap" CD-RW unit, or cheap CD blanks, is the likely
cause of your problems. Price makes a difference in the quality of the
object.

Don't use cheap cdr's..and yes your right.it does make a difference

Well, if it just stopped working it might be the laser has gone bad. Have
you tried to clean it? Can you swap it to another computer?
