Default TI4200 and future games

How do you think a 64mb ti4200 card will handle future games like halflife2,
doom3, farcry, stalker etc...

Fine, so long as you're willing to accept less than max resolutions and do
without some of the eye candy.

If you need to email, then chainbreaker (naturally) at comcast dot

Bull****. It doesn't accelerate DX9 but it is quite compatible. You
won't be able to turn on all the eye candy but you'll be able to play.

Underpowered.

Compared to a 5200? I think not.

er... 5200s and 5600s (non ultras) are underpowered...

When even the 5600ULTRA doesn't out-run the Ti4200 in *ALL* games,
then it SHOWS how well design the GF4-TI series is.

For Nvidia, The "BEST" Seller cards we GF2-MX (org/400), GF3-Ti200
and the GF4-Ti4200.

Why? Because these provided very good performance for UNDER $200.

They have YET to do that with the GF5 series. But the 5700 maybe the
*ONE* to do it.

But of course, the Ti4200 will not do the effects of DX9 cards, but
few games do anyways... There is *NO* rush to upgrade from the GF4 Ti
yet.

I've seen the HALF LIFE demo with friends run on a Ti4200 and
5900Ultra... Both had SMOOTH frame rate, the 5900 was a bit smoother
- but it had MORE *shine* to the surface details - making it look a
bit more "fake"... but its a demo for a developing product.

Comparing on Unreal2, the texture details looked the same - but the
lighting was a bit different... but this could have something more to
do with driver revision... in which the 5900 looked a bit more "real".

Simply upgrading the drivers on the Ti4200 improved the visuals in
HALO noticably. The Laser Pisol (the one that builds a charge and has
a circle-power unit on top) - looks very different from Detonator
30.82 and 52.16. The Circle display looked like a holo-graph
floating in the aira above the gun... with 52.16, there is a glass top
to the gun in which the "graph' is reflecting off of... and looks
exactly the same as what I see on a GF-5 card.

But I would say, YES - DOOM3 and HALF LIFE 2 will most likely choke a
Ti4200... but sure as hell will be bringing the 5200 and 5600(plain)
down as well.

I have my Ti4200 - I get about 60fps in Unreal2... but in fierce
battles it can get a lot slower... and in baddly programmed games like
HALO, getting 30+ fps is a bit harder.

Those games WILL play on the Ti4200... but we're talking 800x600 with
MINIMAL details. When THOSE games come out - that will be the time
to UPGRADE... You'd pay $500 for a card today that will cost $300
when those games come out...

PS: Have plenty of CPU to go with it as well.

I plan to do the same as Darthy. The Ti4200 is fine for me right now, even
though I am severely under-powered when it comes to cpu (dual P3-800).

IF there was a game out right now that I needed more speed, then I'd get a
new cpu and vid card. But I plan on waiting for Doom3. I'll take a look
at what's out then, and unless something catches my eye that is comming out
"real soon now" then I'll buy what's available at that time as far as what
that particular game plays best with. I'll hope for the best when it comes
to other games but I don't play a lot of other games once I've found one I
like. The Id Software crew have not disappointed me so far, I still end up
going back to play their games.
