Default BIOS won't Recognize New Hard Drive

I just installed a new master Hard Drive (Maxtor) on my Dell desktop. It's
about 3.5 years old.

Upon entering BIOS, under Primary IDE Master, it says "NONE". It's my only
hard drive installed. It's plugged in correctly, etc.

What'g going on??
TIA!

Have you removed the jumper? This type of drive requires no jumper if it's a
single drive.

It's set to Master. I also tried getting it to be recognized setting it to
Cable Select.

No dice

Any other suggestions? This is really frustrating...

Try it in another machine. The symptoms are
a dead drive, but you should confirm that in
a known good situation.

Can you change the 'none' setting to 'auto' and see if it comes up?
