Default Toshiba DVD Drive problem

I recently installed a new Toshiba SD-R5372 DVD R/W drive for my Win XP (sp
2) computer and switched the existing Mitsumi CR-485GTE CD R/W drive to be
the slave drive. Both drives seem to be working okay. I also installed
Roxio's Easy Media Creator 7 (with the Dec 14 update) including
Drag-to-Disk.

The Toshiba drive fails to read a formatted DVD R/W data disk after I boot
up the computer. When I insert a DVD disk, I get this message:

"Windows cannot read from this disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it
could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows."

However, if I then insert a CD (either R or R/W) in the Toshiba drive, the
CD is read correctly. If I then remove the CD and insert the DVD R/W disk,
the DVD drive will then read it correctly.

Before I loaded the Roxio software, I installed the Nero software that came
with the Toshiba drive and I seemed to have the same problem.

Can anyone help me here?

Windows XP has it's own version of Drag-to-Disc natively, so you might
be running into a conflict there. I guess the same would go for any
Nero work alike as well.

So should I disable Drag-to-Disk or is there a way to disable Window's
version?

I guess I would start by uninstalling Drag-to-Disc. Then, found out if:

1) Your disc recognition problem is gone

2) You can drop files to a blank disc using Windows XP's version of
Drag-to-Disc. (Generally you have the option to open a window when you
insert a blank disc that you can drag files to.)

As far as disabling the windows utility, I suppose there is a way. If
you don't have a preference for one over the other, and can get it to
work by uninstalling Drag-to-Disc, I would leave well enough alone.

winxp built-in burn function is NOT Drag-to-Disc. It's Roxio mastering
software.

Disable IMAPI:
Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services, double-click "IMAPI CD
Burning", click Stop, then set "Startup type" as "Disabled".

When the drive able to read the DVD disk, I will try to copy all the
data to the HD.
Erase the DVD disk and burn all the data back to the disk by use ISO
format. I don't trust packet writing software such as InCD and
DirectCD.

That did the trick. Thanks.
