Widescreen Gaming and Video Cards
I've been told, that if you wait until all the lights are green,
you'll never get downtown.... I've been following widescreen for gaming allot lately. I'm just a bit scared to make the transition. Presently, I have a 21" CRT, which has been an excellent monitor for 6 years. But, I want the benefits of widescreen (especially for gaming) as well as the improvement of heat dispensation. What I'm struggling with is this: Dell has a nice 20.5" widescreen monitor with 12ms response at an attractive price of 524. It's native res is 1680x1050. However, there is to be a new widescreen from them next month which is 24" wide and native 1920x1200. Either of these displays will require me to upgrade my 9800 XT in order to play games at a comfortable pace. What I can't determine is whether or not 1920x1200 is even possible to render at 60+ FPS with any AA or AF turned on - based on currently available video cards for AGP. This seriously affects my purchase decision, as I don't have PCI Ex nor an SLI upgrade path with my current system, which I intend to keep for at least another year. Has anyone here played widescreen games at these res with either a 6800Ultra or X800XT PE and can deliver FPS in games like HL2, Doom 3, and especially UT2K4? |
