Need help finding Cable signal problem

For the past 10 days my signal has been terrible. I lose signal more
than a few times. I run a 2-way splitter (had a 4-way prior). I never
had this problem in the 3 years I've had cable connection (that's WITH
the splitting of the cable to my modem and to my TV). My ISP's tech
help says my signal looks good from where they are but it craps out on
me numerous times. Is there a software that can measure cable signal
strength and troubleshoot it?
Is there a standard benchmark of cable signal?

Ooh, just found out something else. I have the Motorola Surfboard but
other models will work this way, too. Open your browser to
192.168.100.1 to see if your cable modem will respond. It did for me.

What kind of modem?

Does your TV go bad as well?

Do the lights on the modem change when things go wrong?

If the lights remain the same, I'd suspect a problem with the PC or
any network hardware past the modem. Could be something simple as a
broken ZoneAlarm installation.
