Replacing nVidia TNT2 Pro/32Mb graphics card
Hi, I am currently looking for a replacement for my Vidia TNT2 Pro/32Mb
graphics card as the cooling fan has become unbearably noisy. One (cheap) option I have found is an nVidia TNT2 M64 advertised as new on ebay for about £21 inc postag. Is this card a direct replacement for my current one or is it better. Can anyone offer any alternative card types which are not too expensive ? Regards Mike |

The M64 is slower than your current card. £21 is expensive for such a card, as people are generally giving them away for free. /M |

The M64 is slower than your current card. £21 is expensive for such a card, as people are generally giving them away for free. Granted, the M64 is slower. But i recently sold an AGP TnT2 M64 with only 8Mb of video RAM (the rest was corrupt) for over £25 on ebay; which is completly retared. Especially considering you can get an MX440 for £35 now |

Can anyone offer any alternative card types which are not too expensive ? I wouldn't pay that much for a TNT, I used to buy Vantas for about £15 on Dabs for use in Servers. Can't find that many TNTs new nowadays but the Geforce 2MX can still be had for about £25, the one I used to have had no fan, and no fan is quieter than that :-) You might shop around elsewhere for TNTs, the ones I used to buy on Dabs (Vanta) for server use were around £15 and also had no fan, they don't seem to do them anymore. Alternatively, as Biz says, get a new fan and stick it on, a Thermaltake Orange Orb will most likely fit or a Zalman heatsink, again no fan so 0dbA, more powerful chips than the TNT have been cooled by less. |

This may be a bit late but if you want something cheap get either an MX440
or an FX5200 The 440's can overclock like a mofo. I had one that I took from 225 core to 355 with no video card fan and it worked fine. Even ran a few video card intensive games (Vice City)at 640x480 at above 30fps. The 5200's cost about $20 more but from the reviews I have read they are nice cards if you get the 128MB versions. And they are way faster and better than the old MX stuff. If you do get a 5200 get the 500mhz memory ones. They are dirt cheap and you get the added bandwidth without any overclocking. Some people that overclock are getting the Prolink brands up to near 5200 Ultra standards! These are still very weak cards when compared to the 9800 pro's or ti4200 even. But for $40-$60ish they are a dream come true for us ultra low budget gamers. "Mike Day" wrote in message ...
