GeForce 2 MX new driver problem
450 Mhz Pentium III
GeForce 2 MX 400 WinXP The crux of my problem is that I get the exclamation point in a yellow circle, in the driver display in the DEVICE MANAGER next to GeForce 2 MX/400. When I scroll, although text is readable, it waves, and I didn't have that before. I've tried installing/uninstalling the GeForce 2 driver(s) in a variety of ways: Add/Remove from control panel, from device manager, using wizard, and tried installing the latest one from the NVIDIA site, or installing the year old one from the MS Update site, and I still get the same problem. The only thing I haven't tried using the GeForce 2 driver that came with the video card when I got it. I can't find it. Probably in the garage with the box the card came in or something. Anyway, I've read various newsgroup postings, read the advice on the NVIDA site, and I'm still vexed over this issue. I have a NEC flat panel with Liquidview (to increase font size), and I've tried varients of removing that, and adding it, in case that was causing the problem. Just last week, my display was working fine, but I had a hard drive disaster with a new partition attempt going awry (my fault, I didn't make recovery disks), and I had to reformat my hard disk and start from scratch, re-adding all my software and drivers, and doing the 70MB of "updates" from the Windows site, all with my slow connection. Before I did the reformatting and reloading of my hard drive, I attempted to get into WinXP (my computer would stop before loading windows) by changing various paramaters in the SETUP and perhaps something I changed there is making this problem. What is frustrating is that I know I had this driver problem once before, and I worked it out, but I forgot how I did it. If anyone has any suggestions, based on their experience, I would appreciate it. Dirk |

Okay, I solved my own problem 2 minutes after I posted this by doing a
little searching. I went into the Bios setting (click on the Delete key while booting up) and needed only to change the "Assign IRQ to VGA" setting to ENABLE. Then, I tried the latest NVIDIA driver, instead of the Micropoop recommended year old one, and I love it. Coolest thing Nview can do is rotate the screen 90 degrees or upside down, none of which I can use, but it will be a fun goof to show friends. The image looks great now, and no glitchiness or wavy lines. This fix will probably work only for people who "accidentally" restored settings to default in the BIOS/SETTINGS area.
