Default Best 4x only card?

Dunno if this is any use, but 8X cards do work on 4X mobos.

Plus if you get a new(er) motherboard you can use the 8X card with a little
more performance still. Best 4X card would be the Ti4600; if you're wanting
to save some money go with the Ti4400 or Ti4200. Any reason in particular
you're avoiding the 8X cards?

Yes 8x cards do work in 4x mobos. But suppose one does not want to
fork over extra $$ for stuff one does not need. Besides I don't think
an 8x would improve performance on a 4x mobo.

So I ask again, what is the best 4x only card?

I am trying to optimize the performance of my Dimension 8100. Since
it does not support 8x then I though it would save me some money not
to buy state of the art technology such as 8x cards. I figured that
1-year-old technology would max out this machine.

The computer is 2 years old and has a geforce2 GTS 32mb, PIV 1.3 Ghz
and 256mb PC800. I don't want a new computer or mother board, because
to tell the truth I have not had problems playing new games like vice
city and the machine runs solid work and pro engineer like its
nothing.

What do you think should I stick with the 32mb GTS?

Does anyone know which cards came out when?
Did the ti4800 come on the market in March 2003 or august 2002?

From what I have been told 8x cards and read from benchmarks dont benefit
in performance so 4 x would be enough .

The price difference will be negligible to zero - I think all the NVIDIA
cards being shipped are the 8X versions (Ti4200-8X, Ti4600-8X, etc.)
