How are you connecting, via s-video, if so then your TV doesn't support an
s-video signal, hence the black and white. In order to fix this you'd need
a TV that did.

the vid card came with a svhs to rca adaptor. In the properties, u can
select svhs or composite output.

Yes. Its rare these days to find a vid card with composite out. It came with
a s-video to rca cable so that u can use non s-vhs equiped tv/vcr's. Also in
the device selection menu of the nvidia driver/properties thiingy, u can
switch between composite and s-video out, and also what format. I have tried
both composite and s-video, and all the diff formats, but none of it seems
to give a colour picture. I dont think that its the vcr, cos i have tried
several diff vcr's, but all r b&w pics. Im thinking its something to do with
the vid card.

Just for reference my laptop card is an ATI. The other thing I noticed was
that it wouldn't play DVD's, I'd just have a black box where the video was
playing, not sure if that's because it's a software decoder or what but I
think most people have software decoder dvd's, although I dunno if anyone
with a sw decoder got there's working.

I'll have to check again, but I'm pretty sure there wasn't a "Theater Mode"

Ur the one with the ATI on a laptop right?
Go to the overlay tab, click on it. In the box is a thing that say's clone
mode options or such. Click that and choose Theater mode.
