Default gf4ti vs. r9700

Hello Groups!

Sorry for crossposting, but i think in this case its appropriate.
I want to replace my old geforce 4 ti 4400 with possibly a 2nd hand
radeon 9700 - - to use all the dx9 features, to get a little bit more
frames and because of the better (is it?) radeon Tv-out.
Do you think its a good time now to change(without spending more than,
say 100 €/$)?

TIA,
orlando

R9700 is a lot faster than Ti4200... And you can play all the present games
with FSAA x4 and AF x8...

Well yes, you will go faster allot! 8 pipelines versus 4, DX9 versus
DX8 and the image quality ati offers. Not a bad deal!

I am (touch wood) swapping my Ti4600 for a R9700. Given all the good
benchmarks on Tomshardware, as well as the ATI's improved FSAA and AF
abilities, I think it'll be worthwhile.

I am still in two minds over whether to risk installing an Arctic Cooling
VGA doodad.

Yes you can as long as you don't mind low framerates. My 9800pro/xp3200
system can't play all games with those settings without slowing down too
much, and the 9700 is a fair step down even if it's the pro... and I wonder
what cpu he has. I'm talking about 1024 resolution btw...
And have you ever hear of Far Cry?
As for TV-out, the ATI is excellent for that. And at least the OP knows
enough to expect only a few more frames.

I didn't see 50 FPS on my sold today R9700 Pro (380/340 MHz) with AMD
Athlon FX 53 CPU....

My
9800pro/xp3200 system can't play all games with those settings

But it's a lot faster than Ti4200... It's the main question which was posted
by Orlando.

I talk about 1024 too.

Yeah.... I just played FC @ 1024x768 and FSAA x4 AF x8 with maximum details.
I didn't see any performance drops below 40 FPS.

As for TV-out, the ATI is excellent for that.

It's excelent but I'd like to use NVIDIA TV Out solution.

And at least the OP
knows enough to expect only a few more frames.

Few? Maybe should I post some benchmarks from Ti4200 and R9700 ?

The Radeon 9700 is NOT DX9 capable. The 9800 is DX9 capable.

Removing the oem sink/fan and installing the the artic cooler took
about 10 minutes...just be careful squeezing the pins on the old
cooler to make sure you do not damage components on the board....
IT IS A VERY WORTHWHILE MOD IMHO!
