Default Weird keyboard-related errors

Hello,

since a couple of days, one of my coworkers has been experiencing weird
problems with his computer.
He's just working on it, not doing anything too "CPU/memory" consuming, and
pouf... his computer just starts beeping continuously for no reason, and his
keyboard stops working. Sometimes, the beeping stops and the keyboard starts
to work again, but sometimes it's necessary to hard-reboot the computer.
sometimes also, if he's running some sort of word-processing or text editor
application, long series of similar characters are typed in automatically,
without him pressing down any key on the keyboard. Also, this generally
stops, but it is sometimes necessary to reboot the PC to stop the computer's
free games.

any ideas on what this can be?
thanks
fred

Same here. It's simple (if it's the same problem of course) - bad
contact in the keyboard connector. Try to pull it out and then plug it
back in.

that's what i thought. however, i've tried unplugging and plugging the
keyboard back in a number of times, but still having the same prob.
might it be that the keyboard connector is done for? in such a case, is my
only option to replace the motherboard?

thx

I'd try a USB keyboard before replacing the motherboard, unless it was
time for a system-wide upgrade anyway.

I'd try swapping the keyboard with some from other workstation to find
out if it's the motherboard or the keyboard what causes the problem.

But this is most likely the mobo that's bad. You may try to "refresh"
the contact with some pin but you can also help your coworker to get a
fresh new motherboard by complaining to the boss
