Any advice or suggestions on which card to buy? Which of these two
cards is a better buy in terms of performance?

Hey there, I've always assumed that between two GT models the 7 series
card is faster with the rider that you'd need a good enough system to
drive it. Could be wrong.... Of course if you ask about value for money
that's different too.

A short review:

http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/artic...,125077,00.asp

It looks like the 7600GT is the best buy. Apparently its better graphics
processor performance more than makes up for its 128 bit wide memory access
(at 1500 MHz), as compared to the 6800GT, which supports 256 bits (at 1000
MHz).

Address scrambled. Replace nkbob with bobkn.

Not to mention, it uses less power (no power dongle), and it
runs cooler.

What about between say a 7600gt and a ATI X1800 GTO? Which would you choose?

I had a 7600GT, and it had heat related issues, even though the GPU wasn't
reporting exceptionally high temps. Swapped it out for an 1800GTO, and
haven't looked back. My understanding is that a number of 7600 and 7900
units had issues. Basically, the video portion of games would just lock up
for 30 seconds or so at a time, and it would do it every minute to 10
minutes.

The 7600GT reviews as being a little faster than the 1800GTO, except for
Oblivion (which is my main game right now.

The reviews I seen show the X1800GTO edging out the 7600GT,
excepts in OpenGl. It has a 256bit bus while the 7600GT has 128bit. It
helps it when you crank up AA, & AF. However, it uses more power, so
it needs a 6-pin power connector. It seems to be a nice card, except,
it's price doesn't fit the minimal gain for me.
Don't know about heat issues. The only complaint I noticed was
the 7600GT's memory didn't overclock much.

7600GT around 160-170 USD, X1800 is over 220. The GT is almost as good
in most all circumstances, costs way less, has better power consumption
and heat dissipation, and has great OpenGL support. I've got one and I
love it, so there's not much of a choice unless you're dying to stay ATI
or something.

for 165 Euros, no real price differance. So what do i go for?
