Default 83.90 Driver caused MAJOR PROBLEM ! ?

I installed 83.90 beta driver Tuesday night. Wanted to wait a while before
putting it on my new 7800GS CO card. But during the installation process the
screen went black. And would not come back on. I thought it fried the video
card at first. So I put in my back up video card. And there is still no DVI
output from the computer now. I have the 7800GS back in and running with a
analog cable with no problems. but there is no DVI input into the LCD
screen. I even tried my other Viewsonic LCD screen, with the same results...

If I remember correctly it did display (LCD) before the 83.90 black screen
problem. (The screen went black during the installation of the 83.90 driver.
And the only way I could see anything was to put on a analog cable)

Any ideas what could of caused me no longer having any DVI output on my
computer since I installed the 83.90 drivers ?

I have since backed up to 83.40 and still have no DVI output. I even put in
a backup video card and I keep on hand, and still no DVI output.

The card has analog output. So should I even be concerned that it has no DVI
output. Is there really any thing that would make it better to have the DVI
output ?

Has anybody else run into this problem yet ?
I also noticed that now the setting show my Viewsonic VP930B LCD screen as a
CRT screen.
And the serial number is suppose to be PQ8055200056 not 3641602321 ?

Just ran SiSoftware Sandra and noticed that it has numerous monitors listed.
Below is a link to the screen save. maybe this is why my DVI output on my
computer is not working ? How do I eliminate all of those fathom listings ?

Default 83.90 Driver caused MAJOR PROBLEM ! ?

Looks like so far I am the only one providing solutions to my problem

I did a search in my regedit and found numerous listing of Viewsonic. So I
made a backup copy, just in case. And searched all the Viewsonic entries.
Deleted them and reinstalled the driver again. Now I only show the default
plug & play and one VP930b monitor. The DVI still is not working and it
shows as a analog CRT in my video settings section and the wrong serial
number still..

Called Viewsonic, not much help at all !

Yep , only I had an ATI 9600 Pro card, updating driver and screen went
blank on Both analog and DVI, One said Out of range the other said no DVI
signal.

Screwed around with various monitors , cards and tried on other known good
system with no luck, Finaly phoned Viewsonic and going through the whole
proceedure again they said RMA it when you recieve the new one, two days
later got new one and tried again, no dice, tried different Vid card again
and all worked. so bought new Nvidia BFG 6600gt OC and am now OK.

Conclusion, Both the Monitor and Video card where taken out at the same
time, No one knows why yet. But something in the driver change seems to be
the culprit.

BTW I would not settle for analog only When your monitor and card have DVI.

Regards, Rene

Connect via both DVI & analogue (Done)

Set to clone mode ? how do you do that ?

Installing a beta driver, probably. Don't install betas.

See above.

Very likely that the beta driver did not uninstall properly.
You should have tried Driver Cleaner and failing that done a full
System reinstall.

Caps ON:

WHEN USING BETA DRIVERS ALWAYS, ALWAYS CREATE A SYSTEM
RESTORE POINT. THEY MAY NOT UNINSTALL PROPERLY OR OTHERWISE
TOTALLY SCREW UP YOUR SYSTEM. A SYSTEM RESTORE AFTER SUCH
AN EVENT MAY FIX THE PROBLEM. USE BETA DRIVERS AT YOUR OWN
RISK.

In the display properties / advanced settings / Geforce tab / Nview
there is a dropdown for it.

I use clone mode all the time so I can see things like the BIOS screen
etc. on bootup which you don't see in DVI only mode.

Hmmmm. Looks like you're running proprietary display pivoting software.
Is that affecting things? The standard control panel has the ability to
rotate the image built in.

Also, does your monitor actually allow for simultaneous use of both
inputs at the same time, or does it simply switch?

Aside from making sure that you are running the Forceware coolbits tweak
(which it looks like you are doing) then sorry, my brain's now addled
and I can't suggest anything more to help except one thing. Try using
Riva Tuner and forcing the setting to clone...

Good luck,

Neil.
