Default waking laptop from sleep

hi all,
i'm struggling to get my laptop waking up from suspend using suse 10.2.
the laptop is a sony vaio with an nvidia go 7400 card.
i've tried with 8776 and 9746 drivers as well as the following things:
noapic on boot, disabling intel_agp, NvAGP = 1 and VBERestore in xorg.conf.

The best i can get it to do is to wake up with a black screen with the caps
lock key still functioning. apart from that, i just get lock ups.

any thoughts?
