Creative GeForce 5200 vs. Atlantis Radeon 9100
Go for the ATI, I made the mistake of buying a FX5200. $77 dollars for
nothing but trouble! I am assuming that the ATI card has a 128 bit data path, and the Geoforce has only a 64 bit data path. Plus the Fx5200 can't really run directx9. Many ppl think Nivda is trying to cheat ppl with the FX5200. Seeing how many say it is not any faster then a Geoforce4 MX, and really doesn't have the speed to run directx9 games. So who would u choose a company that tries to pull one over u, or one that tells u the truth? Stan wrote in message ... I have £90 to spend on a graphics card and I am really only willing to purchase it from a highstreet store since I if it's faulty I can just take it straight back. I'm aware that I'm gonna fork out about £20 more for that privilege so unless you really think that the prices I quote are completely nutty then please don't tell me about the £20 price differential. Basically, my Voodoo5 has now become totally useless to me. I used to use my PC for 3d Studio Max, Midtown Madness, Activision Star Trek sims and occasionally Flight Sims, GTA etc etc and whereas the older software worked fine the new software worked but lacked all the advertised T&L effects. Now it's got to the stage where my graphics (and my 900mhz AMD @957 - don't tell me about it, when Christmas comes I'll be getting a new beast) have become too decrepit to handle the latest releases. Firstly, FS2004 is unusable...although loadable and jerky. But, the final straw on the camel's back was Enter the Matrix, which I cannot load at all. (Card must have HW T&L, also device should be compatible with dx9) I've had a look on the websites for my highstreet stores and I've got a shortlist of two cards to choose from (although if you really think I'd be better off spending my money on another card please feel free to suggest it). Atlantis ATI Radeon 9100 (128mb DDR) - £90 Creative GeForce FX5200 (64mb DDR) - £63. I looked for non-Creative as in my experience they are slower, but no such luck. Bearing in mind what I want to use the graphics card for, what do you suggest? Thanks in advance, Jake |

Apart from that, the speed of the 128-bit card is somewhere near the GF3 Ti200 mark. It therefore should be seen as a step up from the GF4 MX (although not really big enough to bother shelling out). The only gripe is that nVidia should put clearer marking on their products to distinguish between the 128 & 64 bit cards, like they did with the GF2 MX200 & MX400 cards. |

Hello Stan,
do you really think that when you buy a very cheap card that is the lowest possible in it's class, that you will then be able to play newest games in good resos ? Dreamer The FX5200 is quite a good buy if you don't play newest games. A generation older games run like hell on it and you have many extra features depending on what board you got. Practically all boards now have TV out and I'd say DivX or DVD playback is superb with the FX5200. Now if that's maximum you do and you are satisified with lower performing or not too pretty games, then the FX5200 isn't a bad card at all. it's a lot better than the MX440 that was a DX7 card. You can at least see the DX9 features on FX5200 and if they aren't rendered considering that the user has a FX5900Ultra, then you will most likely be able to use it pretty well. I'm not that conservative regarding games and will now go from FX5200 to FX5600, but all other features of the FX5200 were superb considering from an upgrade from MX440. The only thing that maybe thrown at nVidia is that it's not crystal clear that you have to take GF4 Ti AND MX series in account when you compare the GF4 and GF FX lines. Most people just take GF4Ti and then say that the FX5200 is crap as the Ti4200 outperforms it. Well I don't think that the MX series outperform it so it's a new low end card that is faster than the new high end card. So think about it ... September edition of PC Format has a graphic card review section. A gold was
given to the msi GeForce FX 5200 128mb card. I suggest you look at this article before making your choice. As the top rated budget card you cannot go wrong. Its on Dabs web site for £68 inc vat. regards Dave "Stan Linder" wrote in message ... Go for the ATI, I made the mistake of buying a FX5200. $77 dollars for nothing but trouble!
