-- Black Screen upon game start....?

I recently updated my drivers for my 8800 GTX card and now find that
almost all my games start with a black screen now - the audio works
however so I know the game is booting. I have tried the usual
suspects like a Directx upgrade, reinstall of drivers, etc.

Any thoughts ? I am convinced it's driver-related

It worked before you did a driver change, but you can't go back to that
known good condition? Why not?

It worked before you did a driver change, but you can't go back to that
known good condition? Why not?

While in a perfect world I could roll back, its not that simple - many
of the games I play have indicated they require a driver upgrade so i
am stuck with the newer drivers from Nvidia. It's particularly
frustartining since I really want to enjoy my games.

Any additional solutions ?

That's the solution. If one specific revision of drivers doesn't work
for you, use another.

Without specifics, such as revisions and other states (monitor, driver,
application profiles, desktop, other hardware) it would be difficult to
force any one set of drivers to work, since you didn't mention them and
we can't guess.

Worth checking a game site a similar issue came up with UT and patches were
posted along with other solutions can you use open GL instead of directX?

So what's the solution?
I have a 7900 GS and am having this same problem off and on for a few
weeks and seems to be almost permanent now. Tried new driver - no joy.
Tired of rebooting the computer in order to be able to browse and mail
after trying to play UR, etc games.
