7dx and usb 2

I have a 7dx board and have tried to install two different usb 2 pci cards
one is a nec chipset the other via both of them say there was a problem
installing - the message i receive is the [data is invalid ] i am running
xp pro any ideas out there or is there some stupid thing i am missing
