Default Dot Matrix Wont Use Tractor Feed In Windows.. HELP

I have a fujitsu dl6600 dot matrix printer and for some reason it wont feed
from the tractor.

If i print from a dos based program it will work just fine but as soon as i
try to print from windows it switches the printer from tractor feed to
friction feed.

I tried adjusting the driver but windows says that there is a conflict (not
resource or anything the printer is installed properly) and wont let me
select anything other than manual feed (friction i take it).. so even after
manually selecting tractor feed on the printer the driver sets it to
friction and prints.. which is not what i want of course : (

Has anyone come across this before.. or something similar? im need some
ideas here.. i dont normally work with dot matrix printers so im kind of in
the dark as to what to try

thanks

update:

i managed to resolve the conflict but it still refuses to print in any manor
other than friction feed

the driver is set to use the front tractor and the printer itself is set to
use the front tractor yet it automatically switches to friction when i go
to print anything (in windows, dos still works just fine)

what is going on!!?

please any help would be appreciated
