Seagate Barracuda vs. Barracuda ES

I need a new sata drive and I'm looking at Newegg online. I've been buying
seagate lately. I can't seem to figure out all of the difference between
seagate's Barracuda ES line and the regular Barracuda line. I've looked
on-line including the seagate site, but I can't seem to find any good
information about why the Barracuda ES is different from the Barracuda. The
two drives below are as listed at Newegg. Both are sata2, both 16 MB cache,
both considered the Barracuda 7200.10, both apparently using using the
perpendicular recording.

As I look further, the ES apparently stands for enterprise storage and the
specs for the ES include NCQ (which I don't fully understand) and something
about vibration tolerance. I'm assuming that the ES line might be more
reliable.

Can any elaborate and give me an opinion about whether the more expensive ES
line is worth the price?

Thanks - I missed that review in my searches. ...looks like the only
advantage to the ES is a slight bit of vibration resistance, temperature
reduction, and similar features that help only when using raid setups where
the drives are packed into small spaces and run constantly. I am looking for
a drive for a server, but this will only be a backup for the data on a SAS
raid 10 array. So I don't think that the $50 extra is worth it even for my
use.

I'm sure the "non-ES" drive will be a good one...
the ES might possibly be a good one for those audio players that are put in
vehicles

I just put in an order for one of the non-ES 400 gig drives. It looks like
it is a good price per gig. Much less per gig than the big 750.
I have 12 3.5" bays (and even a few of the 5.25" bays), and only 4 taken
now - 5 with the new drive. Should be able to write a number of rotating
backups of the data on the raid array to the backup drive, and plenty of
room to install more drives later if I run out of space.

Gosh it seems like only yesterday
I got all nervous when handling a 2gig drive.
Didn't know what I'd do with all that !!!!

If you want a few 2 gig drives, I have a bunch sitting around here for sale.
....could probably give you a good price. I think that my first drive was a
whopping 30 megs.
I believe that was one of the first years that we actually had hard drives
instead of the 2 floppies.

don't think I need any 2 gig drive right now...

But I still have a 286 that has *two* MFM 20 meg drive in it.

The machine has Windows 1, 2, 3.0 and 3.1 on it!!!!
