Default 19" LCDs - .294 is too big. 25ms response time is too slow

I really want to buy a 19 - 21" LCD this year. But I didn't
do it. I'm picky. .294 of dot pixal size for many SONY or
Samsung models is too big. 25ms repsonse time for these
same models from SONY and Samsung is another reason I'm not
buying one this year.

Price has been dropping. But I need something good. Wish
SONY and Samsung work on these two things and come out a
winner for 2005.

It's the nature of LCD... No matter how good it is, it could always be
better.

We should all be pressuring the manufacturers to start getting some consumer
OLED devices out there. They should be DIRT CHEAP once manufacturing lines
are online. OLED is a LOT simpler than LCD or Plasma too!

Im not sure these hard specs are all that important. I keep reading at
Toms Hardware that the specs are rough guides at best and in general
models with pretty avg specs seem to get good consumer reviews even
for games. Im actually pretty satisfied with the one I got and it has
decent but avg specs 25ms etc.

And in fact theres been a flurry of deals at the end of this year.
Many rebates in fact expire today which I didnt know about.

Buy.com, Newegg and other online retailers have been taking up the
slack after compusa, office depot, office max and circuit city
drastically lowered prices on some generics over the Black Friday
sales period.

At the moment besides several ongoing sales at Buy.com - there are
tons of 17" sales ---the 19" screens are getting discounted too.

Newegg has a NESO no DVI 19" 16ms 400-450 contrast I think for
345 or so less 45 rebate. It gets good reviews by consumers there.
Expires today though.

Ecost also has a 19" doesnt give the reponse time though , another
generic type for 299 after rebate.

The two Im interested in :

BenQ - 19" FP931 - has a 16 ms response time DVI gets good reviews and
contrast ratios decent. $370 or so but it has a $20 rebate from Benq
but expires today. This is a good deal.

The Neovo that I was complaining about - 19"
16ms time , claims to have something like 700:1 contrast ratios and
unsually wide viewing angles and DVVI . Seems to have it all for $385
at various places. Now if there really is a REAL difference in 16ms vs
25 ms response times , and you want DVI and its also black or black
and silver some of the cheaper ones only come in silver - then this is
the killer deal IF they lowered a tiny bit. If Neovo got on the
bandwagon and offered a rebate to get this down to $320-349 it would
fly IF it really lives up to the specs. The consumer reviews at Newegg
are once again very good but then almost all the LCD screens get good
reviews even for games. This seems to stand out even compared to the
BenQ and the BenQ stands out for having a DVI, fast reponse times etc.

Even namebrands - Samsung though usually kind of expensive was $349
for the 19" around Thanksgiving. Now its a gross 400+ - I think the
912 though had DVI etc but has a avg response spec of 25ms. Now if
this doesnt really make all that much diffence and some say the DVIs
dont make much difference at all -- then the NESO might be the good
deal though its kind of less attractive - big and silver and kind of
bland looking and the rebate expires today.

Even a Sony is going for $349 or so after HEFTY rebates that expire
today at Circuit City. The rebates are $250. Its a very stylish frame
and the reviews by consumers are very very good though it has 25 ms
reponse time I think. No DVI though.

I think Im getting the NEOVO since the hefty shipping fees at Newegg
the place selling the NESO make it only about $35 or so difference to
me and then I get a black frame, DVI and 700:1 contrast ratio if the
specs can be believed as well as the 16ms reponse time and no rebates.

You know Im also ordering the 939 AMD 64 and MB and Newegg is about
$13-14 more expensive there too ($175 for the AMD 64 vs 161). Wasnt
it $149 a month or so ago ? Now the AMD 64 3000 939s are going UP in
price too? Yeesh. These days Mwave and ZZF are very competitive
with newegg. The shipping deal really makes ZZF attractive to me and
they often have slightly cheaper prices on top of that. If it wasnt
for the LCD rebate deals at newegg , theyd be totally out of the
running for me. Mwave also had OK shipping and sometimes cheaper
prices but they arent listed as a BenQ rebate retailer and dont have
any decent rebates on their own nowadays.

One of the major sources of price increases is the falling dollar.
Retailers like newegg have little margin as a result of competition and
they must keep their prices in lock step with exchange rates to protect
the small profit margin.

Thats definitely true and I expected some hefty increases and there
was general hype about inflation coming back this year. However
besides the fact that its been hyped - the comeback of inflation since
the 1980s (especially by Jim Rogers and some others ) and Krugman has
said we tend to exaggerate the amount of foreign goods we consumer -
if thats possible , the main manufacturing source nowadays China pegs
their currency to the dollar so thats been preventing a huge jump in
prices on many of the sorts of goods Im talking about. Though other
costs like fuel and European sources for goods and even withing china
- their own domestic inflation was raging a while ago until they
supposedly cooled off their economy . Werent AMDs made in Europe ?
Maybe the old chips were I dont remember. Sure that stuff has had some
impact obviously.
