Default AW8-MAX stuck at verifying DMI Pool Data

System details:

ABIT AW8-MAX
1 GB DDR2 667MHx RAM (2x512)
Intel Pentium 4 660 (3.6 GHz) CPU
2 x 250 GB SATA II hard drives (connected to SATA1 and SATA2)
SATA DVD Burner connected to SATA5 (Plextor)
8-in-1 drive (floppy + card readers) connectecd through the internal USB
connector + Floppy Controller for the floppy portion
EVGA e-GeForce 7800 GT with 256MB

The system starts out OK, goes through the PCI device listing screen, and
then I see the message: Verifying DMI Pool Data...........................
and then nothing

Any ideas?
