KT7/2400+ problem
Need to digress for a clearer understanding.....
Had been running a KT7 w/1 GHz Athlon (TB), non-overclock, with "TL" BIOS. Downloaded the latest BIOS ( "A9" ) and flashed; no problem. Bought a 2400+ and installed it; on boot-up, it showed an "unknown CPU 2000MHz" processor. No problem. Booted thru and all ran well. Continued using the system with no problems for several days. Well, I got "greedy" and wanted to see if it would run at a higher speed (in as much as prev. posts on this topic a/o 08-09 by Nitza666 and subsequent follow-ups indicated that 2200 was easily attainable). Remembering that the CMOS jumper should have been used the clear the BIOS after the flash to A9 (which I had not done), I shut down the system , unplugged the cord and moved the jumper back and forth as needed. Booted back up and nothing but trouble since. In the BIOS under the CPU speed/multiplier section, those values/choices changed as they were supposed to have ( right ?? ). Shown below is what I have:---- CPU Operating Speed User Defined xMultiplier factor 5 - 12above CPU FSB/PCI 100/33 CPU FSB plus MHz 0 Speed Error Hold Disabled CPU Power supply CPU Default Core 1.650 I/O 3.30 If I change the CPU Operating Speed to a non-User Defined status, it appears as follows:--- CPU Operating Speed 500 - 1200 (100) =1300 (100) 1400 (133) xMultiplier factor 5 - 12 x12above x10.5 all other settings unaffected. From Wes' site, I have tried setting the multiplier to different values but no luck on getting it to run. 6.5 = no boot 7.5 = 2200 8.5 = 1650 9.5 = 1800 10.0 = 2300 10.5 = no boot For the 7.5 muliplier : boots, windows splash screen, network logon, reboots (loops) For the 8.5 multiplier : boots, windows splash screen, network logon, black screen, fatal exception For the 9.5 multiplier: same as 7.5 multiplier For the 10 multiplier: boots, black screen. If I use the " =1300 " setting: boots, windows splash, network logon, black screen There is no " 12.5 " multiplier to choose from. After I flashed to the " A9 " BIOS but before I cleared the CMOS jumper, there was a 12.5above setting. THen it was gone after clearing the CMOS. Long story short, what should the settings be to run this 2400+ at the default speed of 2GHz ?????? thanks ray |

The correct setting for a 20x multiplier is 12above. if you're seeing a 13above, then something is screwed. It shouldn't be there. See if you can run stable with a 7(15x) setting, and maybe reflash the bios. You might try unplugging the power cord for 15 seconds and then boot holding the Insert key down before you reflash though. -- Abit KT7-Raid (KT133) Tbred B core CPU @2400MHz (24x100FSB) http://mysite.verizon.net/res0exft/cpu.html |

Wes.....
Appreciate your coming to the rescue !!!!!! Using the User Defined 7 multiplier, it gets to the network logon screen and then reboots. Using the 700 (x7) setting, same deal. Powered off; then powered up, holding the insert key down for as long as there was activity showing. Last screen up was---- "while initializing device VKD: "windows protection error. You need to restart your computer" No reboot allowed. Powered off. Unplugged power cord. Discharged BIOS. Swapped jumper back. Plug back in. Powered up. CPU shows as 2000 MHz. "CPU unworkable or has changed" message. Hit DELETE, changed to USER DEFINED, chose "x12above". ESC. "Save settings and exit". Reboots. Shows 2000MHz. Continues to boot. Menu comes up to go into SAFE mode boot. Chose that. Booted to Windows desktop. Start, Shut down, Restart. Reboots. CPU 2000MHz. Boots thru to desktop. Start ,, Shut down, Restart. (to find out if this was a fluke) Reboots all the way to desktop. Go figure !! I do APPRECIATE your taking the time to help me out as well as your contributing to this newsgroup to help all the other lost souls. thanks ray "Wes Newell" wrote in message news On Sun, 17 Aug 2003 16:29:25 -0500, scsiguy wrote: There is no " 12.5 " multiplier to choose from. Wes....
Impart some knowledge on the following:;;; What steps (detailed) do I need to follow to safely change to the 7.5 multiplier (2200) ??? Or does it appear that this 2400+ is not going to cooperate??? thanks ray "Wes Newell" wrote in message news On Sun, 17 Aug 2003 16:29:25 -0500, scsiguy wrote: There is no " 12.5 " multiplier to choose from. Set 7.5 in bios. Raise vcore voltage til it runs stable. You need a good cpu cooler too. You should be able to get to 2200Mhz with 1.75v vcore. To get to 2400MHz I had to set vcore to 1.85v, let the machine cool off, boot up fast and turn on software cooling as fast as I could. Once there, it ran fine. ymmv. -- Abit KT7-Raid (KT133) Tbred B core CPU @2400MHz (24x100FSB) http://mysite.verizon.net/res0exft/cpu.html |
