Default New HDD Not Recognized

"Buck Turgidson" wrote in message

I installed a 2nd HDD (Maxtor) in my HP Pavilion. The ribbon cable going

into
the first drive was labelled master, and I hooked up the connector

labelled
slave to the new drive. I then hooked up the power cable. It also has

jumper
switches which I set to be slave.

But the setup utility won't recognize a 2nd IDE drive.

I tried removing the jumpers altogether, but it still didn't recognize it.

Is there something else that I can try? I am out of ideas. Thanks.

Buck, may we safely assume that you did indeed partition and format the new
hard drive?

Did you also go into the CMOS on boot and enable the second hard drive?
